DOMICO Celebrates 25 Years!!!

  DOMICO's 25th Anniversary 

Twenty-five years ago in a garage behind a refurbished building in an area of Oakland, CA described as gentrifying, a handful of programmers led by Glenn Hunter began one of many thousands of software business ventures. Twenty-five years later, having persevered through numerous business hazards and such societal upheavals as the 1986 savings and loan scandal and the "dot.com" era collapse, DOMICO is still going strong.

DOMICO’s first sale was to one of the leading San Francisco bay area storage construction firms, Cubix Construction, for their Alameda Mini Storage. Twenty-five years later, DOMICO still is the dependable tool that this facility, and five others operating under the name Allsafe Self Storage, continue to use.

 

There have been too many milestones in this quarter of a century to attempt to note but a few. DOMICO easily holds the self-storage industry record for continuous ownership by the same individual of a software company. As many as twelve other software companies have failed during this same period of time.  

 

In 1987, DOMICO forever changed the manner in which a self-storage business was run by licensing its software to the giant: Public Storage Inc. Thousands of facilities were using DOMICO within a year. Over the next few years, there were hundreds of managers who, when they left PSI and got new jobs, asked their new employers to get them DOMICO Software. This led to making DOMICO a brand name within the self-storage industry.

  

Large and industry changing sales were not confined to this single event. In the mid 90’s, DOMICO made history again by selling and installing software at every U-Haul facility (at that time claiming the mantle of largest in the industry).

 

In the current economic climate of early 2009, DOMICO is humbled, yet happy to note that 2008 once again set a record for company profitability. Our emphasis on customer service and creative products, such as the widely successful web based eDOMICO, appear to be an apt formula for longevity. DOMICO is thankful to be part of the self-storage industry.

Inside Self Storage World Expo, January 27-28, 2009

Inside Self Storage held its annual World Expo in Las Vegas, NV at the Venetian Hotel. What a great turn out the expo had. We met many new people in the industry who were attending the expo for the first time.
